The first office visit will include an assessment of your chief complaint, related health concerns and health history. We will discuss your treatment goals and what you want to get out of your office visits. You will be offered a treatment plan based on the information provided.

The objective is to determine a treatment plan that is effective and doable for you. Consistency is key to the success of treatment. Patient compliance is vital to achieving your treatment goals.

Acupuncture can be a pleasant, relaxing experience. It is common for some new patients to feel nervous during their first treatment. People report the sensation of acupuncture as a tiny pinch, a bug bite, or "didn't feel a thing." Acupuncture is not painful.

We can read the comfort level of a patient prior to acupuncture. It is important that you let us know how you feel, especially if you are anxious about acupuncture. We will make adjustments to ensure the greatest level of comfort and desired result.

Wearing loose clothing is a good idea. Rarely is there a need to fully undress. Suggested clothing:

  • A tank top underneath an outer layer is common
  • Racer back tops and bras limit access to the upper back
  • Tight pants and stockings prohibit access to the legs

*Note: Paper gowns and chest capes are available for use.

When you make your appointment by phone, we will tell you for how long to plan. Your time on the treatment table is about 30 minutes. Your first office visit may last between 75-90 minutes. Refer to the page on conditions we treat to learn what treatment modalities are available.

Your condition is reassessed at each office visit. This helps both you, and us, know how you are responding to acupuncture. We measure results by using a pain scale (0-10, 10 being the most severe) and positive scaling (0-10, 10 being 100% recovered).

Positive scaling engages the patient to think of health in a positive way. Removing the pain aspect helps the patient compare their current state with where they want to be.

We welcome any feedback. Your treatment plan can be modified to accommodate your changing needs. You will accelerate healing by working with us in an open manner.

The number of treatments required depends on the duration, severity, and nature of your complaint. Your response to acupuncture is a main consideration. We can estimate the number of sessions required after 2-3 office visits.

Full payment is due at the time of your office visit. We accept Visa and Mastercard.
